German Corporate Governance Code 2026: Streamlined, Clear, and Aligned with International Standards

The Government Commission on the German Corporate Governance Code opened a public consultation in August to streamline and clarify the German Corporate Governance Code 2026 for German listed companies.

The draft emphasizes a strong, principles‑based framework, introduces no new recommendations or suggestions, and keeps existing standards of good corporate governance unchanged, so companies compliant with the current Code will remain compliant without additional burdens; the initiative also aims to align clearly with international practice. Stakeholders may submit comments until the beginning of September 2026.
